Taralga, NSW

Not a very well-known tourist spot – but this country town is absolutely one of the very best! Taralga is essentially one long main street lined with poplars, with so many gems to explore.

This country town is absolutely one of the very best… with so many gems to explore.

If you’re visiting for the day, there are some absolute must-dos. I’m calling it here – the best breakfast of your life is at the Grand Ettie. Incredible coffee, insanely good home-baked goods, and a consistently amazing breakfast menu – if you haven’t been, stop what you’re doing and drive there now. The newly-opened Thirty-Six Orchard Street complex is such an asset – combo of the Bookshop Taralga, Brown Paper Wines and Grace & Thorn coming soon. Perch in the Bookshop with a coffee, or enjoy a wine tasting of the unique and curated selection at Brown Paper Wines.

For a casual feed, you can’t go past the Taralga Hotel for great pub food and a real local vibe. And on the very other end of the main street, you’ll find The Argyle Inn.

THE ARGYLE INN

Lovingly restored with a gentle contemporary edge – The Argyle Inn is a proper country public house and definitely worth getting a booking for. Enjoy a drink out in the beer garden and watch the chefs gather homegrown ingredients from the kitchen garden as they prepare dinner. A surprise seasonal set menu of the highest quality – the food here is exceptional. With eight guest rooms upstairs, these super comfy rooms are perfect for a one-night stay to experience the amazing restaurant at the Inn. They even have their own store on the opposite side of the road with homewares, gifts and knick-knacks.

LAGGAN

Just outside of Taralga is the small hamlet of Laggan. Mostly sheep farming country, this picturesque locality has one unbelieve gem that is worth the drive out. Laggan Pantry & Brewery is an incredibly unique dining experience. Operated solely by the owners – Sally at front-of-house and Evan in the kitchen – this small restaurant pumps out the most incredible food with impeccable service. With a focus on seasonal and local produce, plus an on-site brewery with their own beers to enjoy outside - I absolutely recommend making the trip here.
