Kangaroo Valley, NSW

Set in a valley of green pastures and lush rainforest, Kangaroo Valley is a stunning country town that is as beautiful as they come. Surrounded by dramatic escarpment, Kangaroo Valley is a green oasis that feels like the perfect nature escape.

Situated two hours south of Sydney, and just over two hours from Canberra, Kangaroo Valley is the perfect spot for a weekend in the countryside. Ideal for exploring beautiful nature walks by the river, enjoying the village of shops and cafes, or as a great jump off point to discover the South Coast, Berry and the Southern Highlands.

Kangaroo Valley is a green oasis that feels like
the perfect nature escape.

The town itself is one main street, and has some great places to explore. Grab a coffee and supplies from the General Store and adjacent Café, pick up a delicious selection of cheeses and meats from Hampden Deli, enjoy a browse in the varied stores including The Hive KV and The Nostalgia Factory, treat yourself to something sweet from the old-fashioned ice-creamery/lolly shop Sweet As, and finish off with a cool drink with stunning mountain views from the great traditional pub, The Friendly Inn.

If spending some time in nature is your intention, there’s a stunning river that caters for all manner of relaxing water activities such as swimming or canoeing – just park up next to the impressive Hampden Bridge and wander down to the river from there.

If you’re keen to explore the region, Berry is only 20 minutes away (read more about Berry here) and Moss Vale and the Southern Highlands is just over 30 minutes back up the hill. You can also drive through Berry and enjoy the beauty of the South Coast for the day if you’re craving some ocean air.

THE COTTAGE KANGAROO VALLEY

Immaculately curated by the talented Lisa Madigan, The Cottage Kangaroo Valley is quite possibly the most effortlessly chic and designed property we’ve every stayed at. Just a short walk into town, I’ve stayed here three times now, and it’s one that I just crave a visit to. Every single detail is divine. Lisa’s incredible artworks are dotted throughout, dried floral arrangements are on every surface, and there is a true sense of peace and tranquillity the second you walk through the door. Beautifully appointed with luxury linens and Aesop bathroom essentials, this twin pitched weatherboard cottage is my dream creative nest.
